TYPE OF PROJECT: Group exhibition and curation
LOCATION: Galleri Lokomotiv, Örnsköldsvik
YEAR: 2025
This project was a group exhibition in Örnsköldsvik. Apart from exhibiting my own work, I had the role of organizer and curator together with artist Malin Neuman. Together we released an open call, the text of which is refered to below:
“Body can refer to both our physical selves as well as to an artist’s work. Space has a similar double meaning: it is the general environments we move through in life, but also the specific location in which art is displayed. When these two concepts are put together, a number of questions arise: How does the works the artist produces relate to their physical self? Can the artworks be seen as an extension of the artist’s own body? How do these works/bodies relate to the physical exhibition space?”
The chosen artists tackled these questions from different perspectives. We saw a common thread in their submitted works, that then shaped our curatorial vision. Three text based paintings with words of corporeal experience first meet the visitor, juxtaposed with a film that explores closeness, touch and skin, the image drawing near, no dialogue. Three white architectural models with 1:50 scale figures are set opposite to three semi-transparent hanging sheets of plastic, the sizes of which correspond to 1:1 human bodies and the space a person in Sweden would have in a bomb shelter at times of war. Loose body parts – hands hanging free and cast in plaster on the wall – at last serve as wordless commentary, tying the space together.
